Glowing skin - is in!

Updated: Feb 12, 2021

2020 has been quite the year, am I right?! Especially here in Australia, we didn't get off to the best start, with all the bushfires, the fundraising drama and then Covid-19. However, I'm not here to have a whinge about 2020. Out of everything, I'm sure everyone can think of something that has been a surprising and positive side effect. For me personally, 2020 has been a fantastic year of change and growth, thanks to Covid.

The beauty industry in general has had it pretty rough, I won't lie. But, one of the biggest positives for beauty has been a new-found focus on skin. Yep - never has it been easier for most of us to go makeup-free, thanks to the shift to working from home, we've been wearing minimal or no makeup on a daily basis, instead of a regular full face. It's almost as nice as being able to whip your bra off when you get home, am I right ladies?! SO FREE!

According to Harpers Bazaar, the hottest trends in skincare and makeup focus on glowing, healthy skin. The no-makeup-makeup look featured heavily on the latest runways in New York and Milan, and every second instagram post seems to feature bare faced models and influencers.

The focus is skin that glows. Skin that looks healthy - skin that looks like yours.

Sadly, not all of us have been gifted with clear skin. Many of us are troubled by dry, flaky skin, acne, breakouts and redness. You might have old acne scarring that you like to cover up, or hyperpigmentation. Fine lines, age spots and broken capillaries - I could go on, but I won't. You know what I'm talking about. Despite the push towards a body-positive society, we all want to look our best. There's nothing wrong with taking pride in your personal appearance - indeed, it is a sign of a healthy self esteem.

So what can you do, to boost your skincare routine and get the healthiest, most flawless skin?

First of all, a solid skincare routine - duh. No prizes for guessing that one! Cleanser, hydrating toner, serum, day/night cream and regular treatment products - Exfoliator, treatment oil and mask. It might sound like a lot, and if you're currently a low-maintenance person, start small. Add just one extra step this month, and once you've got that mastered, add in something else. Do your research, and don't buy cheap products, especially for your serum. Serum's are the #1 most important product in your skincare routine - so get one that works! It's never too early or too late to invest in your skin!

Next, consider using a daily skincare supplement. Right now, collagen peptides are everywhere. Collagen is a natural component of the skin, and very easy to access. While the science is still coming in on collagen in skincare, supplements have been proven to have significant positive benefits for hair, skin and nails. Here at The Blush Lab, we use and recommend the Vani-T Collagen Beauty Peptides, which you can buy online or pick one up at your next appointment.

To amplify your results, of course, regular professional beauty treatments are a must. While your standard facial is lovely, consider investing in a more powerful, results-driven treatment like nano-needling and LED therapy. Both of these types of treatments are proven to reduce pigmentation, minimise fine lines, reduce scarring and give the skin a youthful, luminous and healthy glow. The BB Glow treatment takes these benefits a step further by adding in a light BB Tint for a semi-permanent foundation effect - you can read all about it here.

Here at The Blush Lab my aim is to empower and inspire my clients to set their own beauty standards and be confident in their skin. Natural beauty, achieved through embracing and enhancing what you have, not hiding it behind layers of makeup. The treatments I offer here and products I use have been carefully selected to ensure that my clients achieve the best possible results for them.

What I strive to achieve for my clients can be perfectly expressed in just 2 words:

“Flawlessly you”
